Information from the Council on International Educational Exchange

Newport is a very popular destination for student workers from overseas – particularly during the summer months. These visitors are usually holders of a category of visa called J-1 Summer Work/Travel. This visa is a part of a cultural exchange program that is overseen by the US Department of State. All of these exchange visitors have a program sponsor. Employers who have any questions about the program should contact the program sponsor for the exchange visitor in question (the sponsor’s name and phone number is included in the visa paperwork). A list of all sponsors can be found at: http://exchanges.state.gov/jexchanges/.

The largest J-1 Summer Work/Travel sponsor is CIEE (the Council on International Educational Exchange). CIEE is a Chamber member. If you have any general questions about the program, please contact Jen Chandler at CIEE (jchandler@ciee.org).
